With just under 24 hours to go before the general elections in Barbados, the Opposition party has reportedly sought an injunction to bar activity from proceeding.

According to Barbados Prime Minister, Mia Mottley, she has received correspondence of a motion filed to the courts by members of the Opposition party seeking to postpone Wednesday’s election.

She revealed the news during her address to the constituents during her live to drum up support for the party on Monday night.

“The case has been filed for an urgent injunction to call off the election Wednesday,” she read from her phone.

She also noted the filename and defends the name on the affidavit.

“A case has been filed and the case is called Phillip Nathaniel Catlin and Sandra Prunella Mason, the first defendant, the Attorney General, the second defendant,” she noted.

She insisted it was a last-ditch effort by the Opposition to delay the inevitable loss to the incumbent Barbados Labour Party (BLP) administration.

The election which is scheduled for Wednesday, January 19, will be the first since the removal of the Queen as its head of state.
