This week has been filled with the Queen of Rap, Nicki Minaj dropping hints about something coming this Friday. Fans instantly took to social media to speculate about her cryptic Instagram posts and tweets previously dormant accounts.
It wasn’t until mid-week when she announced an Instagram Livestream her fans could tune into on Thursday night for more details. Buzzing with excitement, the almost one million viewers tuned in to hear the Queen Barbie announce a re-release of her 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty, with three new songs as an added bonus.
The new tracks on the project include Seeing Green featuring former YMCMB label-mates Drake and Lil Wayne. The song is followed by Fractions, a solo rap moment where Nicki explains her hiatus from the ‘biz’ before asserting herself as the best in the game. For the local Barbz the most exciting drop was the remix of Crocodile Teeth originally by local upcoming legend, dancehall artist Skillibeng.
Having a new local artiste on an album of such a high calibre is virtually unheard of. So when the Mr Universe deejay teased the collab across his social media, many fans thought it was done in jest. They were pleasantly surprised by the once ‘grimey’ hit that was ultimately made better by Minaj’s rap prowess.
Beam Me Up Scotty, might not be new but it’s getting all the new attention. Experts are already calling it a great promo for her album to come which she announced on her Livestream along with an upcoming documentary. The fans are just happy to finally have Itty Bitty Piggy on streaming sites
