Former men’s 100m World Champion Yohan Blake had his best of the Diamond League this season after crossing the line in a credible fourth at the Paris Diamond League on Friday.
Blake, who was competing in his third 100 meters of the season posted a credible 10.16 seconds to finish just outside of the podium placings. His top four finish betters the sixth and seventh placings in his opening two Diamond League stops.
The race was won by American Noah Lyles who stopped the clock at 9.97seconds, just ahead of Kenyan sensation Ferdinand Omanyala who posted 9.98 seconds for second, with Botswana teen sensation Leslie Tebogo finishing third in a season-best-10.05s
The result comes four days following his second-place finish at the FBK Games, Blankers-Koen Stadion in the Netherlands, where he clocked a season’s best of 10.05 seconds for second in that race.
Despite the time Blake can take confidence from the improved finish as well a level of consistently low 10 seconds as he continues to knock on the sub-10 barrier.
Reigning men’s 100m Olympic Champion Marcel Lamond-Jacobs also officially opened his season in Paris on Friday.
The Italian posted 10.27 seconds for seventh, as he finally gets his season off the ground after missing the previous two Diamond League races
Jamaica’s women’s 400m Olympic finalist Candice McLeod, was also in season-best mood following her 50.80 seconds time for sixth in the one-lap event.
That race was won by Dominica Republic’s World Champion Paulino Marileidy in a meet record of 49.12 seconds with 400m hurdles World Champion and record holder USA’s Sydney Mclaughlin-Leverone who registered a PB of 49.71s
