The new banknotes, printed on polymer substrate, which according to the the Bank of Jamaica, BOJ, is a more durable substrate relative to that of the current banknotes. Unfortunately for a Jamaican woman that is not so.
On Monday, a video which has since gone viral, sees a woman explaining how she withdrew money from an ATM and had it for about a week, however, when she tried to use the cash, she was made aware that a section of the money has disappeared and cannot be used.
The woman, took to social media to air her frustration.
Following the massive repost and interest about the viral video, the Bank of Jamaica, responded when it was posted via twitter by @lancelaevca – to which, BOJ said it will investigate the matter.
Outspoken human rights activist, Sussan Goffe also joined the conversation on Twitter and pressed the central bank to state if the now-cleared banknotes can be used.
BOJ is to provide an update on the matter.
