Canadians continued their pushback in response to the recently Donald Trump-imposed US Tariffs on its goods by reportedly pulling millions worth of Alcohol among other goods from stores.
According to reports, several stores have begun to institute a ban on several us-made products, most significantly alcohol.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford ordered American-made liquor to be off the shelves of the provincially controlled Liquor Control Board of Ontario, the only alcohol wholesaler in Canada’s most populous province, by Tuesday.
“Every year, LCBO sells nearly $1 billion worth of American wine, beer, spirits and seltzers. Not anymore,” Ford wrote on X as per Reuters.
This “Booze Boycott” is among a handful of retaliatory actions by the Canadians, including cancelling vacation trips to their neighbours from the south to limit their spending in the US economy.
The geopolitical tensions between the two countries have also split into sporting events, with Canadians booing the US National Anthem while hosting visiting Ice hockey and basketball teams on the weekend.
Premier of Manitoba, Wab Kinew, urged calm among simmering tensions.
“I think we have to recognize our quarrel is not with the American people… for many of our families, our relatives on the other side of the 49th parallel are still our friends and relatives,” he told a news conference. “We still share a history of our veterans fighting shoulder to shoulder . . . We defeated fascism together.”
