British national to face cocaine charges in St James

A British National is slated to appear in the St James Parish Court on Monday for breaching the Dangerous Drugs Act after she was discovered with two kilograms of cocaine at the Sangster International airport on Saturday November 19.

The accused 20-year-old Customer Service Agent Ashanta Ferguson, of West Midlands, England, has been charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, attempting to export cocaine and conspiracy to export cocaine.

According to reports, at around 7:00 p.m., the accused was boarding a flight to the United Kingdom when her luggage was searched.

The search yielded two packages of cocaine with an estimated street value of approximately £50 000(9,310,636.85JMD) were found concealed in false compartments of her luggage.

Subsequently, the accused was taken into custody where she was interviewed in the presence of her attorney and later charged.
