Canadians have been warned by Transport Canada that, “they may experience significant delays” when returning from Jamaica due to the long wait associated with getting a COVID 19 test. As of January 7, anyone five years and older returning to Canada regardless of citizenship must have a negative COVID 19 test that is no more than 72 hours old.

Persons may still be allowed to travel if they

“consent in advance to take a COVID-19 test at the Toronto Pearson International airport immediately upon their arrival in Canada.”

This alternative is only available at Pearson International and will depend on the number of persons requiring the service on any given day since there is a limit.

Someone from Canada staying in Jamaica has called CityNews and has informed the media entity that plans to fly home on January 17 may be interrupted since the first available COVID-19 test in Montego Bay is not until mid-February.
