The year 2018 was an explosive time for music- when dancer turned rapper Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar best known as Cardi B dropped Bodak Yellow.
The flashy tune that coined the term “bloody” when referring to red-bottomed shoes, lived for several weeks at number one on the Billboard Top 100 and sold over 10 million copies.
Last night it was announced by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) that after years of success, Cardi B’s first hit was certified Diamond. The influential rapper posted a video today of her team revealing to her the good news with a dramatic unveiling of the official RIAA plaque.
This news comes after the wild success of her recent single Up and its eyebrow-raising accompanying music video. This momentous achievement makes her the First Female Rapper to go Diamond.
