Weeks after sharing his intention of making Jamaica the main target for the next staging of the Black Star Line Festival, Chance the Rapper paid a visit to the island over the weekend, to among other things, check out the party scene and absorb the culture.
‘Chance’, along with friend and fellow rapper Vic Mensa met up with Dancehall star Popcaan during their trip as they got a first-hand experience of the nightlife in Jamaica.
‘Chance’ also took the opportunity to link up with Rohan Marley- Bob Marley’s son.
While it remains uncertain if the meetings are connected to the proposed festival next year, it’s evident that respect is all-round by all parties.
Given the core Afrocentric theme of the Black Star Line events, which according to ‘Chance’, is rooted in the idea of fostering a community amongst Africans and those of African descent, the idea of the Marleys and other established local Reggae/Dancehall acts involved with the festival would not be farfetched.
The inaugural Black Star Line Festival was held in Ghana in January this year, and pulled a staggering 52,000 patrons at the free event. The shows line up Included; Erykah Badu, Dave Chappelle, T-Pain, Jeremih, Sarkodie, Tobe Nwigwe, Asakaa Boys and M.anifest.
