Party Leader, Andrew Holness, last Monday directed the Party Secretariat to activate the Party’s internal mechanisms to address matters of great public concern arising from allegations against member of parliament George Wright.

The Party Leader reiterated that the Jamaica Labour Party takes all allegations of violence seriously, and is particularly concerned with the deep rooted problem of domestic violence and intimate partner violence. He said, “as a political organization, we have a duty to ensure that all our actions follow the due process of the law. However, we also have a high duty to ensure that matters which affect public wellbeing and public trust, particularly where public figures are involved, are addressed transparently and timely.”

To this end, the General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party will this afternoon formally meet with George Wright to get a full briefing and discuss allegations in the public domain. After the meeting with MP Wright, a report will be made to the Caucus of MPs who are also slated to meet later this evening. The public will be kept informed of the outcome of the internal deliberations.
