English Premier League (EPL) giants Chelsea is once again singing the blues after suffering a third consecutive loss in all competitions, following their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday.

Eighth-placed Chelsea, who has seemingly fallen into a performance rut in their last few games including being ousted from the EFL Cup, would have come into the game hoping to turn things around with a trip to Newcastle.

Things however turned for the worst as Joe Willock put an exclamation mark on a dominant performance by Newcastle.

Willock’s 67th-minute strike was all that was needed to compound Chelsea’s worries in terms of challenging for the title as pressure begins to mount on the head of new boss Graham Potter.

The former champions of England rarely looked threatening in attack and were almost matched by the Magpies on every play, which was reflected in the stats as they were only allowed 5 shots on goal with two heading on target.

Newcastle on the other hand doubled that output with 10 attempts at the Chelsea goal with five hitting the target including the winner.

The result underscores a brilliant run-in form by Newcastle as they have now won five of their last five games and move into the third on 30 points, two behind Manchester City who has a game in hand.

Chelsea however remains winless in their last five as they fall into eighth on 21 points.

They will however get a breather as their season now breaks until December to facilitate the World Cup.
