Christmas shootout leaves one dead in St Thomas

A man is dead after an alleged shootout with the police after curfew hours on Christmas Day. The incident happened at the intersection of the Trinityville and Georgia main roads in St Thomas.

Information reaching Sleek Jamaica Media is that the police also recovered a 9mm pistol bearing five, 9mm cartridges about 8:40 p.m.

The dead man remains unidentified however the police say he was in the company of three other men who escaped during the gunfight.

Reports from the police are that the men were seen standing next to two motorcycles.

The actions of the men aroused the suspicion of the police who stopped to investigate, as it was beyond the curfew hours.

The injured man was transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police are also investigating who removed the two motorcycles from the scene after they left to transport the injured man to the hospital.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the incident.
