Cristiano Ronaldo’s quest for a thousand goals in football was shortened after netting his 900th career strike during Portugal’s UEFA Nations League game against Croatia in Lisbon, Portugal on Thursday.
Ronaldo scored the historic goal with a volley from 6 yards following a cross long from Nuno Mendes to put Portugal 2-0 up in the 34th minute following Diogo Dalot’s seventh-minute opener.
The strike is also Ronaldo’s 131st goal for Portugal as he also extends his lead as the top scorer at the International level.
The Portugal Captain had previously shared his intention of getting 1,000 career goals as his main target while playing down retirement talks.
