Have you ever wondered how your favourite dancehall songs would sound in ‘proper English’ or perhaps as a classical remix? Well, Sarah from Shad Comedy has answered those questions.
The singing siblings who hail from England have become social media sensations for their renditions of popular Jamaican hits as classical acapella remixes.
SLEEK Jamaica Media caught up with Sarah, one half of the dynamic duo, to get an insight into how they got into covering songs and their love for Jamaican culture.
Sarah, who is a classically trained singer, has been singing since the age of seven and attributes her start to her upbringing in the church, where she has been a vocal member of the choir, a fact that adds intrigue to her choices in music selections for their renditions. An intrigue that has worked for them, as their classical style of delivery of hardcore dancehall music, coupled with their playful sibling quirks, has generated genuine interest in how they creatively differentiated their content.
If you ever wondered how a classical remix of some of your favourite dancehall songs would sound, you simply need to go on their page. Their viral Tik Toks and Instagram videos draw humour, as well as an appreciation for how well the songs are covered.
Their videos have become so popular that they’ve attracted attention from the artistes themselves.
She explained to SLEEK Jamaica that artistes reach out quite often and give them props for their videos.
Artistes such as Popcaan, Nadia Rose, and ‘world boss’ himself Vybz Kartel, have all acknowledged, respected, and appreciated their versions of the songs.

Speaking of Kartel, Sarah shared that ‘Di Teacha’ is their favourite dancehall star and she enjoys doing his songs. In fact, a quick look on their page will show that he’s among the most requested artiste by fans for the siblings to cover.
She added that in terms of song selection and discovery, the fans play a huge role in both, as they provide a reservoir of song suggestions for new music as well as classic hits they might not have found on their own.
What was also interesting is that the siblings only discovered the music a few years ago and fell in love with it ever since, adding that it was when they started their YouTube that they found out about dancehall, which ultimately inspired their sojourn into renditions.
“My brother and I started going on YouTube and that’s where we discovered the new genres of music… the tunes were so catchy, we couldn’t help but join in! And after practicing ‘Ganja Farmer’ a few times, we thought it might be lovely to upload it and share it online with others!” she said.
When quizzed about the difficulty in understanding the language and culture of dancehall, Sarah shared that despite being in England, they do understand the language in some parts. However, they simply go with the flow and allow the feeling of the language to guide them.
She also shared that getting the lyrics of the songs is tricky at times because of the pace of the DJ, however, it’s the practice that’s put in, which is seen in their video.
The British pair’s love for dancehall culture has not only attracted fans from the islands but has attracted more global appeal with rap star Drake sharing their content.
“Skillibeng’s ‘Crocodile Teeth’, which was shared by many artistes, such as Drake,” Sarah shared.

She noted that one of their biggest feats thus far was ‘Champagne Papi’ giving the nod of approval of their content; Drake, of course, being a major fan of dancehall.
They explain that they are very much in love with Jamaican culture, and from the music to the food and fashion, it will come out in their videos. The duo will be doing more videos to share their love for the culture.
Sarah also teased that future content from another favourite Popcaan is underway and it will be something the fans will very much enjoy. They also said they are 100 per cent open to doing collaborations with artistes in their videos which would create spice for the fans.
They have already done work with British media personality Big Narstie and are willing to do more collaborations.
