Manchester United keeper David De Gea becomes the first major departure from the club this summer after confirming his exit after 12 years at Old Trafford on Saturday.

De Gea who was reportedly in the midst of negations over a contract extension, confirmed his decision via an emotional farewell message to fans on his social media.

The Spaniard who joined Man U in 2011 in a £18.9m transfer from La Liga team Atletico Madrid has made 545 appearances for the team and has kept 190 clean sheet.

His departure comes amidst reports that Man U is close to securing the services of Inter Milan custodian Andre Onana.

De Gea’s decision comes weeks after striker Marcus Rashford reassured fans of his immediate future with the team while anxiety remains over the destination of embattled defender Harry McGuire as the club awaits the unveiling of a prospective new owner come next season.
