As the 2022 JCDC Jamaica Festival Song Competition closes, Digicel, is welcoming the renewed energy shown by the public over the past few weeks of voting for their favourite contestants.

Tens of thousands of persons have been using the Digicel-hosted text messaging platform to register their votes in hopes of having their chosen contestant come out on top.

Persons have until 3 p.m. July 28 to submit their votes ahead of the finals tonight at the National Indoor Sports Centre.

Digicel is also a presenting sponsor for the competition, having committed $2 million towards the grand prize, and $500,000 for the Top Performer award. Digicel’s total sponsorship amounts to $9 million.

“Supporting what’s good about Jamaica is even more important for us, especially as we celebrate Jamaica 60. Our renewed partnership with the JCDC for the staging of the annual Festival Song Competition furthers our longstanding contribution towards preserving and promoting Jamaica’s rich musical and cultural heritage. We wish all the competitors the best of luck tonight,” commented Elon Parkinson, Public Relations and Communications Manager for Digicel.

Since 1966, the Jamaica Festival Song Competition has been a staple in Jamaica’s music and culture landscape and is recognised as the longest-running original song contest on the island.

The competition has been a launching pad for aspiring artistes, songwriters, and producers to showcase their talents and identify new and original songs that reflect the spirit of the Jamaican people.

This year, the winning song will provide a musical backdrop for Jamaica’s 60th year of Independence and 184th year of Emancipation.

The 10 final competition entries include a mix of dancehall, traditional style festival songs and contemporary sounds that reflect the nation’s yearlong celebration under the theme “Reigniting a Nation for Greatness”.
