A Chinese man got the shock of his life following a visit to the doctor’s office where a roach was found lodged in his trachea which was the source of days of bad breath.

The 58-year-old resident of Haikou, China’s Hainan Province, was left stunned along with health professionals following the extraction of the insect which is believed to have crawled into his nose while he slept.

According to Jimu News, the man said that three days before the visit (around 4 a.m.), he felt a bug crawling into his nostrils as he slept.

He later noted experiencing coughing but thought nothing of it.

It’s further understood that as the coughing worsened he noticed yellow sputum and a rancid odor from his mouth which continued for days, compelling him to seek medical attention.

Following several tests including a chest CT scan a shadow in the posterior basal segment of the right lower lobe was found, indicative of a foreign object.

On closer inspection following a bronchoscopy, the insect was discovered.

Following the bug’s removal, the area was repeatedly washed and cleaned of phlegm, resulting in the bad smell disappearing shortly after.

The man made a full recovery and was discharged the following day.
