Education Minister Fayval Williams has issued an appeal to Jamaican citizens to employ conflict resolution strategies in order to prevent disputes from escalating to fatal outcomes.

This appeal comes in light of the recent tragedy which claimed the life of 16-year-old Kingston Technical High School student Michion Campbell.

Minister Williams while extending condolences to the family of the slain victim outlined that we must learn to resolve conflicts amicably without resorting to violence.

As such, the Minister alluded that a partnership forged with the Justice Ministry will bring restorative justice practices to our schools and help students navigate a conflict-laden society.

“It’s not that we are ever going to be able to fully do away with conflicts. But what we want to learn is how we manage conflicts, how we deescalate conflicts, how we get out of conflicts, how we not become a part of escalating conflict to a point where you have violence and death ” Williams explained.

With that said, the Minister also underscored that in addition to the proposed Restorative Justice policy, the Ministry will also host consultations on the nutrition in schools’ draft policy.
