World Cup favorites England had a question mark put behind that prediction, after being upset 1-0 by Hungary to open their UEFA Nations League tournament on a disappointing note Saturday.

The 2020 European Championship finalist was unimpressive and looked like an uninspired and exhausted unit in the fixture, perhaps the consequence of a long premier league season for a majority of the team.

Hungary who looked the hungrier of the two teams took advantage of the relatively lethargic England, reeling off 11 shots at goal with six landing on target.

One of which, found the back of the England net after Dominik Szoboszla converted a 66th penalty to give Hungary the lead over the 1966 World Champions.

A lead which held until the end as England lacked any venom in their attacks going forward generally, and rarely looked threatening expect for a half chance by substitute Bukayo Saka.

The result see’s the ‘Three lions’ shockingly at the foot of a tough Group L, which also includes: Germany and European Champion Italy who played to a 1-1 draw in their fixture also on Saturday.

With the win Hungary currently occupies the summit, on three points from one game played.
