The club debut of Chelsea record signing Enzo Fernandez was not enough to inspire victory for the former English Premier League champions as they were held to a goalless draw with Fulham FC on Friday.

The much-hyped debut of their newest acquisition dominated the lead-up to their EPL fixture as the Blues effectively pegged the turnaround of the season on the player after shelling out a pretty penny for Argentine.

The World Cup winner had a credible performance in his club and home debut at the Bridge to inspire moments of threat however the game itself showed the London club’s issues revolve less around players and more around cohesion and strategy.

The midfielder however showed a glimpse of his €107-million worth in a stand-out that would have left a good impression on even the harshest of critics.

However, the improved midfield has again exposed the attacking impotence of the forward lineup and will be an area club manager Graham Potter will urgently need to address ahead of their champions league resumption.

Despite the draw, the point moves them to ninth with 30 points two points adrift of Fulham who has played a game more.

They will next play West Ham United on Saturday before facing German team Borussia Dortmund on February 15 in their round of 16 first leg in Germany.
