American track star, Gabby Thomas is Jamaican – somewhat- she revealed her Jamaican roots and gave the country a big shout-out as she bonded with her ‘new Jamaican fans’ via social media.
Back in 2021 when she became one of the fastest women over the 200 metres she took to social media and said,
“Special thanks to my new Jamaican supporters, love oonu. To my Jamdown family in St. Catherine (Spanish Town, Braeton, Portmore) – large up.”
All this resurfaced as she dominated the US national trials at the weekend and had a few in shock.
But let’s explain her roots a bit…
While Gabby is from Atlanta, Georgia, U.S., she was born to her Jamaican father, Desmond Thomas, and her African-American mother, Jennifer Randall in 1996.
She is now the 6th fastest woman of all time in the 200m as she ran 21.60.
Meanwhile, Shericka Jackson is the fastest woman alive with 21.45 and also the 4th with a 21.55 time.
Elaine Thompson Herah stands tall at 3rd with 21.53.
Gabby is hoping to lower her time but according to reports, the world record held by the Florence Griffith-Joyner, is not her aim.
Both Shericka and Gabby are expected to meet in Budapest at the World Championships.
