Less than two days after World Athletics posted a supposed clash between five-time World champion Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce and American sprinter Sha’Carri Richards, they were forced to withdraw a false declaration of the showdown.

On Monday, World Athletics shared a poster via Twitter of both sprinters appearing to be confirmed for the women’s 100m on April 29, at the Continental tour meet in Botswana.

That, however, is not the case.

It’s understood that both sprinters are indeed set to participate in Botswana however, in separate events as opposed to the initial post.

World Athletics who deleted the post, confirmed the error in response to Michael Johnson’s tweet about the backlash they received over the post in an attempt to clarify why it was removed.

Fraser-Pryce is confirmed for the 100m meters while Richards is instead set to line up in the 200 meters.

Neither sprinters have publicly commented on the debacle, however, one user has surmised it may have been a tactic to create hype around the event despite there not being an actual contest between the two.
