Agriculture Minister Pearnel Charles Jr has indicated that the island’s feed producers have promised to increase production in the coming days to respond to the demand for animal feed shortages island-wide.

This response comes after farmers have expressed disdain in the past weeks about the feed shortages which posed a negative effect on their livestock as the demand during the festive season was at an all-time high.

The Minister also outlined in a statement that while there is an increase in feed production, more work needs to be done to cater to the growing needs of farmers.

As such, the Minister states that the Ministry will continue to monitor the proceedings and work with stakeholders and other entities to ensure that the farmers’ needs are met.

He further noted that the feed shortage serves as an example of the negative effects of the country’s dependence on imports which will then pose a crippling effect on the nation’s Agricultural sector.

Meanwhile, Minister Charles highlighted that the Ministry will also be conducting research and development which will be geared at producing its own feed.
