Senior investigators assigned to both the Financial Investigations Division (FID) and the Fraud Squad are set to meet in the next few days to review statements that were collected from investors at Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL).
This move comes after Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke outlined in Monday’s press briefing that the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) will aid in the fraud probe.
So far, investigators have gathered statements from victims including one of the managers of the company owned by sprint legend Usain Bolt who was fleeced of millions of dollars due to a reported fraud scheme at the institution.
The Olympian’s attorney also declared that his account was stripped of nearly $2 billion without his consent.
Investigators also raided the homes of the primary perpetrator behind the fraud scheme Jean Panton and seized documents, phones, and electronic devices. Panton is expected to be questioned and later charged.
A date for this proceeding has not yet been provided.
