A handgun and multiple rounds of ammunition were seized during a routine operation on Godley Avenue in Gregory Park, St Catherine last evening.

Reports from the Portmore Police state that around 9:50 pm, investigators were conducting an operation in the area when they observed a man that aroused their suspicion.

Following this, the man was accosted and searched. The search yielded a Smith and Wesson 9-millimeter pistol along with a magazine containing fourteen 9-millimeter rounds.

Subsequently the suspect was taken into police custody on breaches of the Firearm act; his identity, however, is being withheld pending further investigations.

So far investigators have yielded success in relation to firearm seizures following the genesis of Operation Relentless II.

The operation has also led to the arrests of suspects linked to multiple armed robberies, drug seizures and murders.
