Jamaican motorsports prodigy Fraser McConnell will compete in the Extreme E season finale in Uruguay this weekend with JBEX racing.

Extreme E, dubbed the electric odyssey is a relatively new series that races in some of the most remote corners of the globe to highlight the effects of climate change.

At 17 years old McConnell began to etch his name into the record books as the youngest ever ‘Rally Jamaica’ winner and the circuit racing ‘Jamaican Driver of the Year’. Records he holds to this day.

He burst onto the scene in 2018 making his rally cross debut in North America’s ARX2 series. In his first race, he recorded the fastest out-of-the-box time, won all his heats and started first in his maiden finals.

Fraser secured his first podium in the season finale, having made it to four of the five final events, finishing 4th overall in the championship.

A year later he made his international racing debut in the FIA RX2 championship with Olsbergs MSE. He again finished the 4th in the championship standings after competing with the world’s best young rallycross drivers.

That same year he became the first and only Jamaican to lift the Americas Rallycross Championship title.

2020 marked Fraser’s supercar debut in the Rally X Nordic Championship where he finished 2nd overall and was voted the fan favourite. But it wasn’t until a year later that he became the first and only Jamaican to claim a supercar victory, defeating 4-time World Rallycross Champion Johan Kristofferson in Denmark. He also debuted in the Nitro Rally Cross Series later that year.

McConnell will be racing with JBEX, the team of former Formula One World Champion Jenson Button, who is known for recruiting racing prodigies. He will be competing against some of the most experienced racers across the global.

Another notable name in the series is Lewis Hamilton, who is also a team owner.
