Veteran Reggae singer Freddie ‘the Captain’ McGregor has inked an international distribution deal with Warner Chappell Music. The deal which was made official on Thursday will see McGregor’s entire catalogue past and future benefit from global publishing and promotion through the Warner Bros’ subsidiary.
The Captain, was naturally jubilant about the partnership and excited about the joint ventures planned with the company. The veteran Reggae crooner whose music spans over 60 years, said he relishes the opportunity to connect with other producers and creative songwriters across the world who inspire him to keep doing music.
The Big Ship captain asserted that a new album is forthcoming and fans should expect new material. Adding, that with the various entertainment industries reopening, it’s the opportune time to add a new chapter in his career.
Chief Executive Officer of Warner Chappell Music, Guy Moot, also shared this enthusiasm. Responding to the media, Moot expressed nothing but praise for the ‘Born Winner’ artiste. “He’s been a pioneer in Reggae for decades, writing songs that have moved fans around the world, and is well known for being generous with his time and efforts for younger up-and-coming artistes,” Moot said. “We’re delighted that he’s signed with us and can’t wait to get to work on his incredible catalogue and new music,” he added.
Head of international A&R and UK MD for the label Shani Gonzales, gushed about having the captain come on board, citing her love for Reggae music and being a fan of McGregor’s catalogue growing up. She noted that being able to publish his material is like a dream come true.
The pioneering Reggae artist has over 40 albums to his credit, in a career that spans 60 years, producing several chart-toppers. Among them include I Was Born A Winner, Push To Comes To Shove, and of course, Big Ship, which shares the name of his own Record label.
On Friday Warner Chappell, announced that they’ve also signed Rap star Cardi B to a joint distribution deal for her future releases.
