Frontier Airlines has stopped its operations in Kingston with the last flight to Norman Manley International Airport landing Monday.
Reportedly, Delano Seiveright, Senior Strategist in the Ministry of Tourism, said the move was not surprising and was due to strong competition from other carriers.
This comes as other airlines are expanding the number of flights into Kingston.
JetBlue is set to move up to five daily non-stop flights between New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport and Kingston, and four daily non-stop flights between Fort Lauderdale and Kingston this summer.
Mr. Seiveright also noted a recent report from international travel analytics firm, ForwardKeys, which found that Kingston is emerging as the fastest-growing individual destination in the Caribbean this summer.
Frontier’s move comes weeks after Spirit Airlines scrapped its service between Jamaica and Bradley Airport in Connecticut, due to low passenger uptake.
