Germany and Spain are among top World Cup fixtures on Wednesday

Former World Cup winners Spain and Germany will be among the major fixtures set for day three of the 2022 World Cup on Wednesday.

2010 Champions Spain will kick off their World Cup pursuits against Costa Rica in Group E.

It will be the first major test for a youthful yet talented Espana team who are seen as the next golden generation in the country’s football history.

The number seven-ranked Spain is expected to come away with the win however as seen with the shock loss of Argentina to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday they would no doubt be expected to put their foot forward and not underestimate their opponents.

Four-time champions Germany will also be active tomorrow when they face, a more challenging Japan in the earlier Group E game.

The Germans who last lifted the trophy in 2014 will be hunting a record-equaling fifth hold on the title as they seek to reclaim their spot as one of the dominant forces in world football.

The number 11th-ranked Europeans who were underwhelming in the Nations League tournament will see this as the ultimate opportunity to mark a return to form with success on the biggest stage.

Other major fixtures on the day will see last season’s two semi-finalists Belgium and Croatia kick off their bid to return to the last four in Group F.

Croatia will start proceedings against Morocco in an early game with Belgium facing Canada in the second game.
