Following news reports about a new Chairman at the helm of the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) and a new board, Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Christopher Tufton says good things are happening in the health sector.

The Minister highlighted via X (formerly Twitter) that the hospital “Has a new & improved 128 Slice CT machine.”

He noted that it is “One of the most modern in the world – which provides a 3D-imaging of the full body & body parts of our patients.”

This comes as the Health Ministry and UHWI released an infomercial about the 128 Slice CT machine by Dr. Scott Jennings.

Back on June 6, at the UHWI, Dr. Tufton commended the administrators as they unveiled the then newly acquired 128-slice CT scan suite that is based at the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology.

He said “You cannot advance without the technology that is to be supporting that platform for improved patient care. Transaction time and cost and the efficiency of that delivery is critical. The University Hospital of the West Indies has come to terms with the efforts in the use of the digitisation infrastructure that has been in place for some time. It started before my time and continued during my time. Recently we have seen additional progress.”

The suite, inclusive of the machine, cost the University Hospital $184 million.
