Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart to be laid to rest tomorrow

A viewing ceremony for hotel mogul Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart was held today at the Stella Maris Roman Catholic church in St Andrew.

The ceremony was attended by members of Stewart family and government officials.

Stewart will be laid to rest at his Rio Chico property in Ocho Rios, St Ann tomorrow.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness shared that Stewart was one of Jamaica’s “most brilliant and innovative business minds.”

Holness added that Stewart will be remembered as a nationalist, committed to his country and a family man.

“His legacy is immense, and his passing represents a great loss to Jamaica, the region and the world,” Holness shared.

Also in attendance was Holness’ wife, Juliet, Attorney General Marlene Malahoo-Forte, Minister of Justice – Delroy Chuck, Minister of Science, Energy and Technology – Daryl Vaz and Opposition Leader Mark Golding.

Stewart’s body was flown back to Jamaica on Wednesday. He died on Monday in Florida after ailing for some time.

He was 79.
