Dancehall A-lister Govana dropped the visual for his new track Power Up on Tuesday to energise his fans in the new year.
The RD Studios-directed project shows snapshots of the artiste’s gradual progression throughout his career including clips of concerts and interviews during his early ascendence to prominence.
The song itself, which is motivational in theme, shows Govana’s lyrical potency as the fourth-generation artiste almost curates fully charged rhymes to bring across his message.
When it comes to content, the ‘strike 4orce’ leader doesn’t disappoint, delivering stingy punchlines which connect on each delivery, as he cleverly stays on topic in his usual nonchalant, chilled cadence that should have listeners keenly tuned in for creative wordplay.
He makes several references to controversy in his life, including his recent debacle with the National Water Commission (NWC) to add elements of authenticity, relevance, and relatability to the track.
“Tell NWC seh the drip inna me watch a nuh nothing fi guh dip inna mi stash, Yea mi have couple million fi wash, cause mi tell miself seh.. mi living affi posh.”
The video, his first official release of 2022, has so far racked up close to 100,000 views within 10 hours of its release, catapulting to the 16th most trending song on the island.
