Governor General Sir Patrick Allen has alluded that the Government intends on tabling stringent legislations geared at tackling crime and violence as well as money laundering for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

This was disclosed while delivering the Throne Speech during yesterday’s ceremonial opening of Parliament.

Sir Allen noted that while the Government is keen on executing strategies geared at safeguarding citizens, other key legislative reforms are being advanced to improve public order, public safety, and a reduction in crime and violence.

This includes amending the Finger Prints Act, the Immigration Restriction (Commonwealth Citizens) Act, and the Aliens Act.

Other Acts that will be amended in the near future include the Proceeds of Crime Act which will be modified to include unexplained wealth.

He also added that the new Bail Bill, which is currently being reviewed by the Joint Select Committee will in time provide a framework for bail when passed into law and will assist in the fight against crime.
