Guyanese woman caught with cocaine concealed in Shirley biscuit packets

A 59-year-old Guyanese woman was on Wednesday detained after she was caught with 11.188 kilograms of cocaine concealed in Shirley biscuit and other snack packets at the country’s main airport, Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).

The accused Unique Sunshine London of Haslington, Guyana was held at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) with the suspected cocaine concealed in biscuit wrappers in her carry-on luggage.

London however pleaded not guilty to the drug possession and trafficking charge when she appeared before the Diamond Grove Magistrates’ Court this morning and was further remanded.

Another man who was on board the flight with Sunshine, Dhanraj Deochand, of Perseverance, Essequibo was also detained for attempting to smuggle six finches in hair curlers.

The Guyanese Customs and Narcotics Unit (CANU) also outlined the items seized tested positive for cocaine and had an estimated street value of US $ 336,000.
