Erling Haaland’s record run in a Manchester City shirt continued on Saturday after the striker bagged a second successive hattrick to bring up his 40th goal of the season as City thrashed Burnley 6-0 in their FA Cup quarterfinals on Saturday.
Haaland, who broke the club’s single-season scoring record of 38 goals following a hattrick in the champions league, deposited three more to his account as part of another stellar performance by the striker for the Premier League champs.
The Norwegian talisman scored City’s first three goals in the 32nd 35th and 59th minutes for his sixth hattrick of the season, in what now seems like routine activity for the striker.
World Cup winner Julian Alvarez got in on the action with a brace in the 62nd and 73rd with Cole Palmer also registering his name on the scorers’ sheet with a 68th-minute strike.
While the game was a clinical performance by the free-scoring Manchester Club, it will be a sub-heading for the main story of Haaland’s imperious form this season.
The 22-year-old, playing in his first season in England, has now racked up a staggering 42 goals in 37 games.
He will have a chance to extend that record on April 1, when they host rivals, Liverpool, at the Etihad Stadium.
