England captain Harry Kane became the country’s record goal scorer on Thursday after scoring against rivals Italy in their European Championship qualifiers in Naples, Italy.

Kane, who came into the game level with former skipper Wayne Rooney (53 goals), separated himself following a 44th-minute penalty conversion to double England’s lead in the first half.

His goal put an exclamation mark on a dominant first half by the three lions, who took command as early as the 13th minute through Westham midfielder Declan Rice.

The game was a grudge match between the reigning finalists who delivered an exciting finish to the 2021 finals at Wembley, which saw the Italians triumph on penalties to lift the title.

Despite Italy pulling a goal back through Mateo Retegu 66th minute strike, England held on for a 2-1 victory this time around.
