On the eve of Emancipation Day and as Jamaica celebrates 61 years of Independence, the country proudly boasts many historic feats including the appointment of the first female Cabinet Secretary.

So far, #Summer23 will go down as not just the hottest summer on record but the most history-breaking period for Jamaica in Sports and other spheres. Today, a defining moment in Government was accomplished as the Prime Minister appointed the country’s first female Cabinet Secretary, the Hon. Audrey Sewell, OJ, CD, JP.

This means she will head the civil service of Jamaica succeeding Ambassador Douglas Saunders who became Cabinet secretary in 2008.

She brings 40 years of public service experience and exceptional qualifications to the office.

A few government and non-government members have congratulated the distinguished Mrs. Sewell on her new appointment via social media.

The Cabinet Secretary is the most senior policy adviser in the civil service and operates as the secretary to the cabinet.

As Secretary to the Cabinet Mrs. Sewell will provide support and advice to the government and oversees the provision of policy and secretariat support to Cabinet and Cabinet Committees.

As Head of the Public Service, she is responsible for developing a highly professional public service able to effectively execute government business at all levels.

SLEEK congratulates Hon. Audrey Sewell on her appointment.
