It will be a case of history versus legacy at stake when Portugal and Morocco face off in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on Saturday.

In one of the more interesting fixtures in the tournament’s history, both teams will be shooting for notable feats in the tournament’s history.

Morocco who has been one of this World Cup’s surprise packages in advancing to the round of 16, matched their best-ever finish with qualification to the last eight.

It’s just the second time in their history they’ve reached this far in the Cup and the first time since 1986 in Mexico.

Should they continue their impressive run in Qatar they will not only make history by advancing to the semi-final for the first time as a country but also a historic feat of being the first African football nation to reach the last four in the tournament.

The Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal on the other hand will be seeking a return to the upper strata of world football when they take the field.

Ronaldo who is entering the twilight of his decorated career will be aiming to add another star to his wall of achievements as he seeks to check off the only trophy in world football that has eluded him in his career.

In what is expected to be his last World Cup, Ronaldo’s goal in Portugal’s 3-2 victory over Ghana made him the first player to score in five consecutive tournaments.

Coincidentally enough the last time Portugal reached the semi-finals, it was Ronaldo’s first World Cup in 2006.

The Portugal-Morocco game will be the first of two games set for that day with a mega match-up between reigning champs France tackling England in the following game.
