It was the perfect treat for fete lovers at the Caribbean’s premier cooler festival, “I Love Soca,” which delivered a stellar year-end send-off on Boxing Day at the UWI Bowl, Mona.
Not even a pre-event drizzle could dampen the ecstatic atmosphere of the Boxing Day revelry as patrons turned up in droves to work up a sweat.
A usual expectation is the effort put into creating an aesthetically pleasing venue and no one was disappointed. The design mirrored a “Cloud 9” theme, of which patrons excitedly indulged for pictures.
In the meantime, flags and rags were waving as the large crowd was kept engaged by Bloodline Franco and Brush 1 Road Marshall, DJ Lantern, Richie Ras and DJ Cyclone. DJ Mindless and Zess also kept the vibes high, along with Chromatic Live, who sweetened the treat with an injection of hip-hop.
The main act, soca sensation Nailah Blackman, was immaculate as she delivered a medley of her hits. The crowd vociferously signaled their approval as they recited lines from their favorite songs, which became part of the performance in a highly interactive set by the”Work Out” hitmaker.
Surprise appearances from Dancehall stars Shenseea and Stalk Ashley further boosted the excitement as patrons toasted to the Caribbean link-up among the women.
The overall experience was satisfying, from the exciting atmosphere to the engaging performances, “I Love Soca” on Boxing Day was the perfect post-Christmas wind down to 2023 and undoubtedly, #CertifiedSleek.
