In his first public statement since being hospitalized with an unspecified medical emergency in April, Jamie Foxx says he “went to hell and back”
“I went through something that I thought I would never ever go through, and I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear updates but to be honest with you, I just didn’t want you to see me like that man” Foxx said as he fought back tears while describing his experiences in an emotional three-minute video posted to his Instagram account on Friday.
“I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, television show,” he added. “I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.
Although not specifying the exact cause of his sudden hospitalization, the Oscar winner added that his “road to recovery had some potholes as well, but I’m coming back and I’m able to work.”
The “Django Unchained” star even shut down rumors that took over social media, claiming he was blind and paralyzed.
“As you can see … eyes are working just fine … I’m not paralyzed,” he said.
Foxx also thanked “everybody that’s prayed man and sent me messages,” he also expressed his gratitude to the “great medical people” who treated him. “I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back,” he added.
He also credited his sister Deidra Dixon and his daughter Corinne Foxx, noting that they had “saved his life.”
He added that they “kept it airtight, they let nothing out, they protected me. And that’s what I hope everyone could have in moments like these.”
Corinne who has incrementally shared updates of the actor’s health status, also added his post video to her IG stories on Friday night.
In recent times Foxx has been spotted in public looking healthy and enjoying himself, including being on a boat ride in Chicago as well as stopping to return a purse that fell from a woman during a carriage ride in June.
On Thursday, the actor posted a picture of himself atop a gold race car outside of a Las Vegas hotel. The car is labeled “BETMGM,” an online sports betting company.
Foxx captioned it, “Thankful for my @betmgm family and a great few nights in Vegas. We got BIG things coming soon.”
