An Illinois father Jason Karels has been formally charged with three counts of murder for reportedly drowning his three children in a bath tub during a court appointed custodial visit at his Round Lake Beach home on June 13, 2022.
Reports indicate that on the day in question, Officers from the Round Lake Beach Police Department responded to a home just north of Chicago after the mother of the three children requested a wellness check for them.
Upon arrival, police made the grim discovery of 5-year-old Bryant Karels, 3-year-old Cassidy Karels and 2-year-old Gideon Karels dead at the home.
Officials also outlined that at the time of the discovery, Karels was not at home but was later discovered on a nearby highway after leading police officers in a 30-minute chase.
Subsequently, after leading officers onto multiple highways, Karels then crashed his vehicle into a wooden area.
Following the crash, authorities said Karels admitted to killing his three children, and attempted suicide multiple times before fleeing the home.
Meanwhile, During a bond hearing on Wednesday, prosecutors revealed that Karels allegedly left a note for his estranged wife saying, “If I can’t have them, neither can you.”
As it now stands, Karels is being held on a $10 million bond and is slated to return to court on June 21.
