The West Indies Cricket team continued their impressive pre-World Cup form at home following a six-wicket victory against Australia in their final T20 match at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on Thursday.

The regional team starred with both bat and ball to stun the number two-ranked team at the Oval. Half-centuries from Nicholas Pooran and Captain Rovman Powell led commanding innings by the Windies team.

Pooran’s quick-fire 75 runs from 25 deliveries helped steady the ship after losing opener Shai Hope for 14, with Powell blasting 52 runs from 25 balls in his knock following the dismissal of Johnson Charles, who also logged 40 before his exit.

The Aussie attack struggled to break the stride of the regional team, who raced to 220 after ten overs before settling at 257-7, with Sherfane Rutherford-47 and Shimron Hetmyer-14 seeing out the close of the 20 overs.

Australia was equally frustrated during their turn at the wicket as disciplined bowling by the WIndies ensured the tourists remained unsettled in their reply.

Alzarri Joseph 2-44 and Gudakesh Motie-2-50 led the attack with six out of seven bowlers bagging wickets, restricting Australia to 227-7 after their 20 overs, 35 runs short of the target.

It’s the fourth consecutive victory for the Windies following their 3-0 series sweep over South Africa at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica last week.

The team will now turn its attention to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket T20 World Cup, which begins on Saturday.

Their opening game will be against Papua New Guinea at Providence Stadium in Guyana.
