Miss India’s Harnaaz Sandhu showed the most poise to walk away with the 2021 Miss Universe Crown this morning at the grand finale in Eilat, Israel. The Indian beauty bested 79 other beautiful contestants to be adjudged best all-rounded individual during the competition’s 70th staging.
Harnaaz, who is an advocate for women’s rights, stole the spotlight in the final round when she urged young girls to not compare themselves to others or their opinions, instead be catalysts for change on world issues.
The 21-year-old gave one of the most composed responses to the final question, which impressed the judges and audience on hand.
“Stop comparing yourselves with others and let’s talk about more important things that are happening worldwide. I believe in myself that’s why I’m standing here today. Come out speak for yourself because you’re the leader of your own,” Miss India responded on giving advice to young girls.
The title is India’s first in over 20 years since Bollywood star Lara Datta claimed the 2000 crown. Harnaaz expressed a feeling of overwhelm in returning it to India.
Paraguay’s Nadia Ferreira was the first runner-up, with South Africa’s Lalela Mswane finishing 2nd runner-up.
