Online influencer Ashley Grayson was reportedly slapped with a 10-year prison sentence after being found guilty of conspiring to kill by hiring a hit on a rival influencer.
According to reports, Grayson, a Mississippi resident who ran an online business, plotted the murder of her ex-boyfriend, who is said to be her now rival, by enlisting the help of a couple whom she had worked with in the past to do the deed disguised as “Business opportunity”.
Authorities became aware of the attempt after the couple were informed of the true intention of their meeting after Grayson offered them $20,000 each to carry out the job.
It’s understood that they played along and gathered evidence of Grayson’s involvement, such as video calls of conversations about money and deadlines. All of these were used by prosecutors in their convictions.
Attorney Reagan Fondren said in a statement that although it was fortunate nobody was hurt, the case was the result of a ‘senseless rivalry.’
“This was a twenty-first-century crime where online feuds and senseless rivalries bled into the real world,” Fondren said. “The defendant tried to hire someone to murder a woman over things that happened exclusively on the internet.
“Fortunately, no one was physically hurt in this case, but the victim and her family still felt a severe and emotional impact as the result of the defendant’s actions. The proactive response from the investigating agencies and our prosecutors prevented an even more serious crime from occurring.”
