Talismanic striker Erling Haaland is reportedly set to miss Norway’s opening Euro 2024 qualifiers this month following an injury.

According to reports, Haaland picked up a groin injury following his hat-trick performance in Manchester City’s 6-0 thrashing of Burnley in Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final game.

“Erling took it hard when he realized that he could not fight for the team,” Norway coach Stale Solbakken said.

Solbakken continued,“Fortunately, there is still plenty of self-confidence, talent, and cohesion in this group to win points in the next matches.”

BBC reports that Haaland’s omission from the team was confirmed by the medical team following tests on Monday.

Norway national team doctor Ola Sand noted: “After doing tests and examinations yesterday it became clear that he will not make it for the games against Spain and Georgia. It is better that he receive medical follow-up at his club.”

It means he will miss Norway’s Group A games against Spain and Georgia on March 25 and 28.

The 22-year-old has scored 21 goals in 23 appearances for Norway since making his debut as a 19-year-old in September 2019.

Haaland has been in imperious form for Manchester City, racking a single-season club record of 42 goals in 36 games, 18 of those goals coming by hattricks.
