Four years after Ishawna’s remix of English singer Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You titled Equal Rights, the dancehall artiste has landed an official collaboration with the song’s originator. In a clip of an interview featuring Sheeran, the singer revealed the collab, saying “Ishawna’s got me singing patois with her”.

A featured single off of Ed Sheeran’s critically acclaimed album Divide, Shape of You enjoyed explosive popularity that lead it to be widely remixed. It was only a matter of time before the catchy tune fell into the hands of local artistes to be remade into something better. One such artiste was Ms Legendary herself, Ishawna.

Equal Rights quickly fell into infamy in Jamaica because of its explicit lyrics encouraging men to perform oral sex on their partners with lines like You never hear ’bout foreplay?/A modern times now, boy, relax, it’s okay/If me ever bring it up inna the group chat/You get the threesome for your birthday.

Despite the debates the Everybody Needs Somebody singer sparked, the remix still found its way to Ed Sheeran who brought it up in an interview with Qmusic Netherland where he sang the song word for word. Ishawna reposted the interview on her Instagram and expressed her gratitude to Sheeran for the recognition and her fans for their support of the song.
