Jackson among the greats with third fastest time ever

Double National sprint Champion Shericka Jackson, added her name among the all-time greats in athletics, after scorching to the third fastest time ever recorded in the 200m to seal victory in the National Championship.

Jackson who had claimed the 100 m title in a season’s best 10.77 seconds on Friday, dismissed a quality field in the half lap event to win in a mind blowing 21.55 seconds world lead, which is also the registered as third quickest over the distance.

Jackson’s time is only bettered by countrywoman Elaine Thompson-Herah, who has the second fastest times in history over both 100m and 200m with 10.58 seconds and 21.53 seconds.

Both women are just behind current record holder Florence Griffith-Joyner whose time of 21.34 set in the1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea remaining as the mark to beat.

The Jamaican who made the official switch from 400 meters over the last two years, has repeatedly shown capacity to challenge the top brass over the shorter sprints since her step down in distance.

A change which has already yielded both Olympic and World Championships medals.

Jackson was again projected to be among the podium places at this year’s championships however with her imperious form as of late, those projections have been specified to title contending expectations.  

The MVP athlete had already elevated herself to historical heights after accomplishing the rare feat of being named the national champion in three separated disciplines, winning the difficult Trifector of the 100m, 200m and 400m.

In addition to having the fastest time in the world over 200 meters this season, she is also registered as the third fast over the 100 meters, only behind World Champion Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce [10.69 seconds] and Thompson-Herah [10.77 seconds].

Given her current form right before the Championships, she is now serious contender for both titles and is expected to lower both her personal record in the finals.
