200m World Champion Shericka Jackson led home a Jamaican 1-2 in the women’s 100 meters in Brussels after out dipping compatriot 100m World Champ Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce in an exciting finish in Germany.
Jackson who finished second to American Aleia Hobbs in an anti-climactic race last week turned the tables with 10.73s to finish for the win in Brussels.
Fraser-Pryce who withdrew from the Lausanne meeting last week, after feeling discomfort in her hamstring, rebounded with a steady 10.74 seconds time to just finish behind a composed-looking Jackson.
The race was essentially business as usual for the Jamaicans who experienced very little challenge from the competition. Only Ivory Coast’s Josee Mariee Ta Lou offered any credible opposition to the Jamaican duo as she posted 10.78s for third.
Hobbs was fourth in the race in 10.93seconds as the US finished in the next three spots. Sha’ Carri Richardson 10.98 was fifth with Tamara Clarke sixth in 11.03seocnds
Following the results of the race, Jackson leaped frogged Ta Lou as the Diamond league leader in the event with 35 points, Ta Lou has 34, to be relegated to second while Fraser-Pryce consolidates third place on the table on 23 points.
The grand finale of the 100 meters will take place in Zurich ,Switzerland from September 7-8.
A top-two place for Jackson or any finish above Ta lou will see her walk away as the 2022 diamond league champion.
