Team Jamaica’s supremacy in sports continued this week this time, in powerlifting after the country won historic gold medals at the 19th NAPF Regional Championships Hotel El Panamá in Panama City, Panama.
Jamaica topped the categories in the squats, deadlift, and bench press disciplines.
Dr. Scott Jennings got the ball rolling for the Jamaicans with a Golden start after placing first in the 83kg class. Jennings broke (2) NAPF records in the deadlift with 312.5kg to land an overall score of 732.5kg.
That feat was followed by another record gold by Sami Depass who copped a new NAPF record in the deadlift after the third attempt at 220.5kg
Captain Jevon Dacosta completed the golden trifecta for the Jamaicans after taking gold in the Class 93kg category. DaCosta walked away with the title after a successful third attempt at the 315 kg deadlift to take top honors.
The medals are said to be the first of any kind for the country in the event and what a way to start a legacy by continuing a trend for which the country is already synonymous record setting golden moments.
