Jamaica finishes second place in the Caribbean Cycling Champs

Jamaica continues to shine in all things as the nation’s junior cyclists have returned home following their second-place finish on the medal table at the just concluded 2023 two-day Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships in the Dominican Republic.

Melaika Russell turned in a stellar performance where she won gold and silver.

She took the gold in the 60 kilo-metres road race for juvenile women, becoming the first Caribbean Road champion from Jamaica since Marloe Rodman in 2015.

And took the silver in the juvenile women’s 10-kilometre individual time trial, clocking 16 minutes 47 seconds behind Bermuda’s Charlotte Millington.

Cajur Chue competed in the juvenile men’s 10-kilometres individual time trial where he claimed silver, after missing the gold by 10 seconds in a time of 13mins 29 seconds behind Puerto Rico’s Amauri Santiago 13min 19 seconds. 

The other Jamaican male rider Khalil Russell finished way outside the medal positions in his events. 

Jamaica finished second on the medal table with 3 medals behind the host country Dominican Republic who finished atop with 9 medals, while Puerto Rico was third with 2 medals.
